Hear From Our Future Leaders
“I joined with the intention of just putting myself out there and trying new things. Successteam became more than just another organization to add on my resume. I met people who helped bring out what I always knew I had inside me. I’ve never considered myself a shy or quiet person, but I had a problem not with fully expressing myself. Successteam taught me that if I don’t advocate for myself who will? Successteam taught me that when 1 of us wins, we all win! Successteam showed me the true value of black excellence! My only regret is not joining Youth Council sooner. Youth Council gave me morals I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life. Now as an alumni of Youth Council I plan to be the help that continues to grow the path Tim and our team is building. I can’t express how grateful I am for and how I wish this organization nothing but success, love, and support throughout the growth of its future.”

“When I am asked to describe what the Successteam means to me, there are many words that could be used to describe the organization but the one that means the most to me is family. The program has had such an impact on my academic success as well as played apart in shaping me into the man I am today. Through the experiences and friendships that I encountered throughout my duration in the program I learned that it’s better to be your on individual person than that of what others believe you should be, and that when learning what kind of person you are don’t feel bad for the bumps or hiccups that you may have along the way. As I sit in my dorm room, one of my biggest regrets was that I didn’t enjoy the time I had left with the people in the program because when it came to an end all I could do was reminisce. The Successteam will always have a significant place in my heart and will always be a major stepping stone that contributed to my success. Mr. Tim, I want you to know that you never failed me as a mentor and that you were the father figure that I desperately needed and because of you I know what it means to be a real man, I love yall.”

“Before joining Successteam Youth Council in my eleventh-grade year, I always knew that I wanted and would be successful. Granted, at the time, what success meant to me was achieving academic excellence and letting the work speak for itself to pave its own pathway. “Let the A’s fall where they may” would be an accurate description of the mindset I had back then. Outside of diligence and work ethic, it never occurred to me to question the other traits that are needed to become successful such as innovation, pro-activeness, leadership, etc. Once I did join, all these attributes hit like a whirlwind because of the democratic-like nature in which youth council members communed on certain issues. The executive team brought forth the information, dilemmas, and proposals to the general body; we would give our insights on the matters, and our insights would create an impact on what would be executed. It encouraged us to be and do what was required to be successful in accomplishing a goal.
After my second year of Successteam Youth Council, going into the Alumni Associations, my mindset is now to challenge myself to create a positive, successful impact. I feel that Successteam Youth Council has become a safe place for me to put my leadership skills to the test with drive and ambition before I go out into the “real world” of college and career. Whenever I make a mistake or have a learning curve within my leadership development, I would much rather it be in Successteam Youth Council than anywhere else, because I know that the organization will provide me with the guidance and support needed to overcome the adversity. Adversity, learning curves, and mistakes are tales of all great leaders. In my opinion, Successteam Youth Council is a learning environment where youth should strive to leave their own mark on the organization, as preparation for the mark they will leave on their community when they become great leaders.“

“Last year, I graduated from Successteam Youth Council, where I had the incredible honor of serving as president. Looking back at my time on the team, I can confidently say that it has shaped me into the person I am today. Before joining Successteam, I was uncertain about my future endeavors. After Mr. Tim became my mentor and applied all the information from the general meetings to my life, I knew where I wanted to go for school and what I wanted to do. I am now at the illustrious Clark Atlanta University majoring in criminal justice. I am thriving in the skills I developed, such as public speaking, time management, resilience, and collaboration. Successteam has laid out the foundation for my success and determination for college. I am so appreciative of all the experiences, lessons, and connections that Successteam has given me.“
